Enrosadira: the legend that colors the Dolomites
At all latitudes, what is the most evocative moment of the day? More than one in fact: dawn and sunset, when the sky is tinged with colors. In Trentino, Enrosadira colors the Dolomites of unforgettable nuances.
Enrosadira: what is it?
But what exactly is the meaning of Enrosadira? The etymology comes from Ladin, a language still spoken today in some areas of Trentino and it means “to turn pink” .

Enrosadira therefore stands for identifying the phenomenon of the reddening of the peaks of the Dolomites , which at sunset turn from orange to purple, to slowly give way to the blue of the night.
Enrosadira: scientific origin
The Dolomites are composed of calcium and magnesium carbonate rocks. For this reason Dolomite, hit by the sun's rays, at dawn or dusk, develops many intense shades .
During the day, however, it is “cold” in color. A color so evanescent that the Dolomites are called “ Monti Pallidi ” (Pale Mountains). Remember? We already told you the legend some time ago on the blog.
The Legend of King Laurin and the Enrosadira
Like all natural phenomena, too Enrosadira has its own legend , which dates back a long way and is intertwined with the various legends of the Dolomites.

“King Laurin, king of the dwarves, had a wonderful garden full of roses, called “Rosengarten” or Catinaccio. One day the king of the Adige decided to find a husband for the beautiful princess Similde, so he invited all the princes of the kingdom to a tournament, except Laurin. He showed up anyway, hidden by the cloak of invisibility, and decided to kidnap the girl to have her all for himself . He took her to his rose garden, but the other knights who had chased them surrounded him. Laurin put on the belt that gave him the strength of 12 men, fought, but despite his invisibility he was captured by the soldiers, who observed his movements by following the rustling of the rose bushes. Then Laurin, overcome by pain for having been betrayed by his own garden, cast a curse: the magnificent rose garden would no longer be seen by anyone, neither by day nor by night. But in petrifying the garden he forgot the dawn and the sunset . So since then the roses reappear coloring the mountains, at the beginning and at the end of each day.”
